Tia Drumma, a powerhouse drummer and producer based in Tauranga, has been making serious waves in the music world over the last few years. In 2020, he earned a nomination for Best Producer at the Pacific Music Awards for his work on Mikey Mayz's Wild People and was a finalist for the Taite Music Prize, thanks to his production on JessB's New Views EP, including the track So Low.
Throughout his career, Tia has worked with a range of respected artists, including JessB, Raiza Biza, Melodownz, Sid Diamond, Who Shot Scott, Paige, Hollie Smith, Laughton Kora, Mikey Mayz, Blaze the Emperor, The Settlers, Tyna Keelan, Illbaz, and even international figure Iggy Pop.
Tia also heads the music department at Mount Maunganui College, where he supports students in writing and producing their own music. In 2020, he collaborated with students on 2020, an album of original compositions that marked the first school album of its kind in the Bay of Plenty. Garnering over 50,000 streams, the project attracted attention from Radio NZ, The Herald, and local radio.
Known for his role as a top hip-hop drummer in New Zealand, Tia regularly performs with artists like JessB, Blkcity, and Raiza Biza, with his contributions to Aotearoa’s music scene and education featured in NZ Musician in 2021.
Tia has also taken the stage at nearly every major NZ festival, including RnV, Splore, Homegrown, Womad, and Northern Bass. He supported Six60 at Eden Park’s first-ever concert, a landmark event with over 50,000 attendees, and has toured across New Zealand with L.A.B. and Fat Freddy’s Drop.
In 2022, Tia gained endorsements from Yamaha Drums, Istanbul Agop cymbals, Pacific Ears In-Ear Monitors, and Music Works NZ. His production work has featured on TV shows in New Zealand and abroad.
Recently, his collaboration with Who Shot Scott has led him to international stages, representing NZ at Big Sound and SXSW in Australia in 2023 and at Music Matters in Singapore in 2024.
